12 Journals of 2016 my December page.

Hi Everyone

Just popping in with my December page before getting on with my next one!  Not many to go now before I show you how to bind them all up into a lovely reminder of your art journaling and some memories from 2016.

I loved this paper patchwork look when he did it before so I picked up on that as my first inspiration for this page.

I loved the jingle bell holly too so I went with that as an extra embellishment on my festive page.  Here is the tutorial that shows you how you can achieve a page like this one:

I hope you find something to inspire your next art journal page.  Don't forget this patchwork technique could be adapted to all sorts of themes.  It is definitely not just for Christmas!!!

My memory for December was about Christmas crafting and I know you will sympathise when I say I get so many ideas for lovely Christmas Projects but not enough time to actually make all of them!

Just incase you want to start now here is the tutorial for the project you see on my tag:

See you again soon with my final pages and thank you for popping by X

Quick but Lovely Christmas Card!

Hi Everyone

It is that time of year when we all want fabulous handmade Christmas Cards that you can make in minutes!  I hope you enjoy this tutorial which features a lovely SnowGlobe stamp from IndigoBlu.  This beautiful stamp needed little adornment which makes it perfect for cards in a hurry.

I think you will agree all that the gold embossing gives a simple card a luxurious feel.  I made the inside match the outside with the addition of a Circle Merry Christmas stamp….

I hope you enjoy the tutorial and as you can see from this photo this card is nice and flat so perfect for keeping the costs of posting down too.  I think I am going to make these in different colour ways…..Pink, cream and gold could be nice….what do you think?…..

I am featuring on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Blog twice this month so watch this space for more Christmassy makes!  I love this time of year….Ho, Ho, Ho!

Guest Design Team Member - First Post

Hi everyone

Just popping in to give you a sneak peek of my first post as a Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Guest Design Team Member.  I had such fun with this one and there are two videos included!

As you know I am already a lover of my PITT® Big Brush Artist Pens so it was lovely to mix and match them with even more lovely Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft ® products that were new to me.  In the first video you can see how you can work with them on a fabric panel and then on the second how to turn that into a gorgeous project for the holiday season.

Follow this link over to the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft ® Blog and don't forget to say hi and let me know what you think of my first share and of course please explore all the wonderful mixed media creativity going on over there too.

I am already working on my next project in between looking after Callum who has had his knee operation and is in a full leg splint.  My fitness levels are improving as I 'frequently' travel up and down stairs to help him!  He is recovering well and is looking forward to getting on with the physio so he can get more mobile.

Thank you for popping by and hope to see you over at my Guest Design Team Post! x

More Spookiness…..

Hi Everyone

Is more spookiness a word?  I have another video tutorial for you today and this time I show you how to create a ghoulish scene inside a Tim Holtz Assemblage Clock!

I do love these clocks and I have been meaning to do this one for some time.  I managed to break the glass of the first clock I bought when I was making the Christmas Clock (see below) I made a couple of years ago.  I kept it as I knew I could still use it but I had to use a new one for the Christmas version. Today, as you can see, I have finally used it!!!

So if you want to turn a clock to stone - make mini grave stones, make glittery blood trails or glue cobwebs then this is the tutorial for you!

I hope to get at least one more halloween project up before the witching hour is upon us but we will see….I seem to need all my time management skills lately :-)

Here is the link to the Christmas Clock if you like creating worlds in miniature then these clocks are the perfect frame for them.  Just let your imagination take over and make it small!

Have fun creating in miniature.  Thank you for popping by x

Christmas is Coming Series - Card 5!

Hi Everyone

I hope you are all managing to stay afloat during this busy run up to Christmas!  I started out with good intentions, as you know, to have all my cards made and ready to send out of the door on December 1st!……..and here I am on the 16th posting my last video in this mini series and I am off to post the last two of my cards as soon as I have written this ;-)

I really hope you like this one as I loved how it turned out.  It is definitely the longest of the card batch making sessions but I hope you will agree it is worth it.  May I present to you the window shaker card using Rubber Dance Stamps!

Lots of frosty goodness in the window shaker and fabulously festive foliage to decorate the card.  I hope that even though this series took a little longer than I intended you agree this one was worth the wait!  If you have friends and family visiting at Christmas this is the perfect card for them.  Put aside an afternoon and you will have a batch made in no time.

I am going to do a separate page for all the card dimensions of this series which means I will have to watch the videos as I have sent all my cards out!!!!!  I think a little fast forwarding will be in order ;-)

Here is the link for all the card dimensions!

As usual the inside definitely matches the outside:

The stamps I used were from the Pines Fir Yew and the Christmas Greetings stamp sets both by Rubber Dance - follow this link!……Almost forgot to mention there is a sale on!!!

I thought you might like to check out this link to visit my friend Annie who used one of my designs (Card 4) as a starting point for some of her Christmas Cards this year.  They look fab and I was really pleased to see I had helped a bit with giving some inspiration.

So without further ado here is the tutorial to show you how you can make this window shaker design.

I am not sure how many more videos or blog posts I will fit in between now and New Year as I really must relinquish my computer to the mender men before my Apple Care runs out!  I am going to be bereft but I hope to give my craft room a thorough sorting and dusting and wiping down while it is away.  Maybe I should promise to do a craft room tour video to give me more incentive ha ha!

At the weekend I hit 4000 subscribers on my You Tube channel and was as pleased as punch!  Thank you all so much for supporting me and cheering me on.  I love sharing both here on my Blog and over there on my You Tube Channel and of course selling my workshops over on my ETSY shop.

I hope all your Christmas preparations are progressing nicely and that you are a little better organised than me!!!  I have an Art Journal Video uploading as I type this so I should be posting that tomorrow and I have 3 crafting things I would like to get done before the New Year ………keep your fingers crossed for me.

Incase I don't manage to do all that before my Computer is wrestled from my grasp I would like to wish you all a Very Merry Christmas (with lots of crafting goodies from Santa!) and a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Hugs

Helen

Christmas is Coming Series - Card 4

Hi Everyone

I am so late with this series ….which considering that it was the exact opposite of why I decided to make this little series of what I hoped were keep me organised with my card making this year designs!!!!……oh well back to the drawing board!

Actually this card is perfect for those of you who like me are finding it hard to get everything done at this time of year.  This is a quick and easy card design to put together and it looks fab….if I do say so myself :-) !

In fact it was so quick I made tags too!  So if you don't have the same die as me then you could use something similar - die cutting machines would do the trick too and punches!  Failing that you could choose to stamp the snowflake with Ranger Sticky embossing powder and then add the glitter.  So lots of options for this design.

I used my lovely Rubber Dance Christmas Greeting stamps for my stamping.  Love that 'do not open till xmas' stamp - perfect for tags or wrapping paper.  You I am sure have lots of Christmas Greeting stamps you can substitute.

Don't forget to make the inner match the outer!  It was fun using up the waste from my cards to make pretty tags for my presents this year.  I hope you enjoy the video and that it gives you lots of inspiration for quick and easy to put together cards - this one is quite flat so great for posting too.

Today there is frost on the ground and we will be outside putting up the Christmas lights!!!!   Brrrrrr - I think I will get a hot chocolate inside before I venture out!  Might tuck a hot water bottle in my coat too!

Hope you are all feeling festive whatever you are doing this weekend.  Have fun and thank you for popping by X

12 Tags of 2014 - November - Part 2!

Hi Everyone

Here is the link to the video for the November tag I posted on the last day of November!

Lots of frosty products used to make my shaker tag this month.  I have been fitting in my crafting in between starting to prepare for Christmas.

We have two Christmas trees in our house and the first is up.  Check out the lovely sunshine I had whilst I was decorating it:

Actually the photo doesn't look sunny at all!!!  It was though…..can you spot the ghost in my photo!  Here are the lights and beads going on the tree.

Opening the box of decorations - This box of Disney ornaments on the top is about 20 years or more old now.  I remember buying them each month for a year when my eldest son Damian was little.  It is always Callum's job now to put them all around the bottom of the tree.

As he is the tallest in the house at the moment so he also likes to put the stars on top of the trees too!

Here it is all decked out in jewel coloured baubles.  Most of them were collected when we lived in Germany.  I can spot a few fabric baubles that I made.  Did you ever make them?…….They were a bit of a craze all those years ago and there were classes being run for them all over the place.  If you look in the photo above this one you can see one that I made (bottom left with sequins) and one that one of my boys made! (looks like a pine cone in green and purple)  I remember sitting down with Damian and Ivan and getting them to make one each for prosperity!  My Mum made one too.  Callum was still a twinkle in his Father's eye then so now I come to think of it I will have to get him to make one.

I love all the traditions that families adopt or make at this time of year.  I know it is those traditions that we celebrate that my children (now not so small) remember fondly of Christmases past.  I will share some of them with you over the coming days as I like you prepare the house for the holidays.

What is your favourite Christmas tradition?

Oh…..and while I remember those of you guessing Advent Calendar on my 'Guess what it is' post the other day……correct!  I have yet to finish it so I have decided I am not late for this year but early for next ;-)   ho, ho, ho!

Have a fun week and enjoy the frosty tag video.  Thank you for popping by X

Christmas is Coming Series - Video 3

Hi Everyone

Hope you are having a fun weekend - Mine is all about Christmas.  I am hoping to start with the decorating so to put me in the mood I am posting this Card for some last minute ideas if you, like me are running late already!!!

I started this series in the hope I would be organised for the 1st of December and that maybe I could help a few of you with your Christmas Card making too!

I have all 5 cards videoed but finding the time to edit them has been a nightmare!

This card is all about keeping it simple!  I really liked how it turned out.  Elegant….I hope you agree.  You could make it in lots of different colour ways and if you wanted to speed things up more you could draw the lines that the pine cone baubles hang from rather than sew them.  I am making a batch in Cream and Burgundy with a touch of gold sparkle.

So without further ado here is the video link:

Time to get into the Christmas spirit - I have to wash all the windows in the conservatory next and get rid of a few spiders webs before I can put up my first tree.

We have two trees in our house these days.  When we redecorated the front room a couple of years ago I wanted the tree to match so I started collecting a second set of ornaments in pastel blues, greens and silvers.  I loved my old baubles that I have lovingly collected over the years so much (they are all in jewel tones) I felt bad not getting them out of their boxes so the solution was…….a second tree!  It takes a while to get them both up but I do love them both.  I will post a couple of photos when they are done so you can see.

If you are decorating this weekend I hope you have fun actually I hope you have fun whatever you are doing!  Off to get my breakfast now….

From Art Journal to Christmas Card!

Hi Everyone

I am busy with a new workshop project but still finding time to get some Christmas Cards made and I have another video to share with you today.

When I made my Let it Snow Art Journal page last year I commented it would make a fab Christmas Card!  Ta Da……..it took me a while but here it is.

I decided to make a simple easel card for this one and you will see how to use clear embossing powder to create the lovely snowy background in the tutorial.

Cutting Guide:

Turquoise Card Base - 5 3/4" x 8"
Book Page Frame - 5 1/2" x 7 3/4
White Card Topper - 4 1/2" x 6 3/4"
Turquoise Easel Card Base - 5 3/4" x 8" scored in the landscape position at 4" and 6"
Book Page for base - 5 1/2" x 3 3/4"
Turquoise Strip - 5 3/4" x 5/8"

Today I have tasked myself with getting the written instructions ready for my new workshop - The kits are in the process of being produced so I am getting there!  Watch out for the photos of the samples I make along the way!  Here is the first one I made way back in the year.

Enjoy the tutorial and thank you for popping by X

One Christmas Card - Two Techniques!

Hi everyone

Time to share another tutorial!  More Christmas as you can see!….and another way to use two lovely stamp sets from Rubber Dance.

In this video tutorial I show you how to use two different techniques to achieve this look.  The Green card is gold embossed and the red card is gilded so the choice of colour and technique are yours!

I love how this looks - almost oriental.  I had an idea for the tabbed layout and it worked really well so I will definitely be trying this on other occasions.

Cutting Guide (from the bottom to the top!):

Card Base Red/Green: 11 1/2" x 8"
1st Gold Layer: 5 1/2" x 7 3/4"
1st Red/Green Layer: 5 1/4" x 7 1/2"
2nd Gold Layer: 4 1/4" x 5" scored at 1/2"
2nd Red/Green Layer: 4" x 4 7/8" scored at 1/2"
3rd Gold Layer 4" x 2 1/2" scored at 1/2"
3rd Red/Green Layer: 3 7/8" x 2 1/4" scored at 1/2"
Gold Inner 4" x 2 3/4"
Red/Green Inner: 3 3/4" x 2 1/2"

Have a look at the two lovely stamp sets I used by following this link!  Christmas Greetings (SEC4-M) and Pine Fir Yew (NP6-M) from Rubber Dance.

Here is what the inside looks like:

I really hope you enjoy this tutorial and that you give both techniques a try if you haven't already!

This month I managed to miss making a project for the Rubber Dance monthly Colour Challenge so I was determined that this one would be my effort so as the colour scheme is Red Gold and Green - perfect for this time of year I think these cards will do the trick!  I hope I have inspired you to play along.  You have until the end of the month and although it would be nice you do not have to use Rubber Dance Stamps.  So follow this link and then get your creative thinking caps on!

Hope you are having a creative week and thank you for popping by X

Christmas Stars tutorial for the second in the Christmas is Coming series!

Hi Everyone

Today I feel really in the mood for getting busy with some Christmas Crafting.  I am hoping to get the last of my videos in my Christmas is coming series finished off today and I am sharing the second video with you right now!

As you can see I have a few more cards made and tucked away ready to send in December.  I am thinking I might even write them and be really, really organised……I did say thinking ;-)

I am pretty sure that you can use this idea for other cards too and I am thinking it might make a fab embellishment on scrapbook page too!

Don't forget to email me for the pdf if you need it for the card sizes and it does has a template for the star on this card that will help you get your brads in the right spots!  I will send out the pdf as soon as I get the final card videoed so not long now….

I have some great news to share with you today too……Thank you to everyone who voted for me in the Crafty Academy Awards.  I won two awards so I am a very smiley person today.  I won in the Best Mixed Media and Best Tutorials categories so a huge thank you and virtual hug to you all.  It means a lot to me that you voted and has spurred me on to make lots more videos!!

Here's the link for the awards announcement video and you will find lots of links to lots of other talented winners also sharing their creativity on You Tube.  Give Betty the lovely host and organiser of the awards a thumbs up while you are there as I am pretty sure that a whole heap of organisation went into this event.

Hope you have lots of fun creating with the Christmas is Comings series and I will be back shortly with video and card idea number 3.

Have a fun week and thank you for popping by X

Announcing my Brand New Christmas is Coming video series!

Hi everyone

I am back from a lovely week in Cornwall….more of that later.  I am busy getting ready for my next card class in between filming for my latest set of videos.

Today I posted my first video in my Christmas is Coming series of videos.  I really hope you find them useful.  I find myself getting later and later getting my Christmas Cards made and reedy to send in December.  I came up with a plan to batch make my cards over the month of November and decided to share the fun with you on my You Tube Channel.

The idea is to post 5 or so videos with simple card ideas that you and your family can sit down and make too!  I have broken the tutorials into steps so after you have watched one you can decided who is doing which step and then sit down with a hot chocolate and a cookie or two and have some real festive fun.

Here is a simple card idea based on using your Christmas Punches or Dies.  I love this kraft and red colour combination but don't forget you can choose your own scheme depending on what inks and card stock you have in your stash.  This would look great in shades of green and cream too.

The idea is that you divide how many cards you want to make by 5 and that is how many you need to make of each design.  You may find that some of the designs aren't to your taste in which case make more of the ones you do like !!!  (hope you like some of them at least ;-) !!!!)

So have a look at the tutorial - gather you supplies and your assembly line and off you go!  Filming this series is making me feel Christmassy already!!!  There will be a pdf file with the card dimensions to save stopping and starting the videos and there may be a small template or two (not sure how many as I am still filming!)  Just email me to say you would like one and I will get it off to you as soon as I have it finished!  The dimensions are on the videos too so no problem if you want to get started straight away!

Off to make more videos!!!  Hope you are having a fun week and thank you for popping by x

Christmas - Starting Early!

I know, I know the C word already!  I wanted to share something with you and give you something to think about that is a fun project to make for Christmas 2014!

As you may know I have an online workshop for a Tag Storage Project (see my left hand side bar).  At Christmas I taught a workshop that used this design to make a fun advent project.  There is a free idea tutorial on my You Tube Channel that assumes you have purchased the workshop so you can make the Tag Storage Unit in Christmas papers and then I show you how to make the Advent Tags on the free Video.

I taught this project in a real live workshop at the end of last year and I was delighted by the gorgeous tags that were being turned out.  I want to share with you the work of two of my friends and to show you their fabulous Christmas Advent tags so you can have lots of inspiration if you decided to purchase this on line workshop and make a Christmas Tag Advent Calendar for yourself.

The first photographs are of Deb's tags:

Look at all that gorgeous detail.  I love the jewelled baubles and the cute Christmas tree!  This was a Tim Holtz style tree cut in half!

Deb's tags are going to look fab every year and I know her Grandchildren are going to love seeing them each day.

Here is Julie's Tag storage unit all finished and looking gorgeous!  I love the beautiful lace trim she has used and I am definitely going to look out for something similar so I can do the same!

Here are Julie's lovely tags - each one a mini work of art!

Those mittens on strings are soooooo cute!

My friends have now inspired me to add some more Christmas loveliness to my tags too!

When I saw Julie's and Debs finished projects I knew I just had to share them with you all.  I know you will forgive me mentioning the C word now you have seen what my friends have created.

Thank you Deb and Julie for letting me share your Advent projects I love them and you have inspired me!

If you want to purchase your copy of the Tag Storage project you can either do so from my Left Hand side bar or you can follow this link to my ETSY shop if you would prefer.

Here is the link for the basic Advent Tag Video and if you share what you come up with don't forget to let me know so I can send other Advent Tag folk over for even more inspiration.

Have a lovely evening and I will see you tomorrow with a Card Tutorial that started out as a design for the boys and ended up as one for the girls too!

Thank you for popping by X

12 Tags of 2013 - December Tag!

I posted November's tag and video yesterday, December tag is now complete - October tag is made and filmed and is waiting to be downloaded so I can edit it…….so that leaves January.  I need to sit and muse a while before I start the tag that I missed right at the beginning of this year.  It doesn't seem two minutes ago that I decided not to play along with 12 tags of 2013 and then within a couple of months I could not resist the fun and even decided to make videos for each of my tags!

I have to admit I have really enjoyed it though truth be told I really should concentrate more on my online workshops and to try to start earning some money from my passion!!!  May be that should be the  New Year's resolution I make this year rather than the usual 'must try and loose a few pounds'!!!

December's tag was all about using two products one which I had and one which my lovely Mum gave me for Christmas!  Tim used them to great effect to produce translucent and delicate poinsettia and holly embellishments.  I loved the look and decided (mainly due to my limited die collection) to make frosty snowflakes.  So without further ado here is my December tag.

I thought my snowflakes needed some focus so I also took inspiration from a recent art journal page I shared.  I really love this cute snowman catching snowflakes on his carrot nose.

Here is the video that shows you how I got from Tim Holtz's inspiration to my interpretation.  Hope you like it.

I'm off to link up to Tim Holtz 12 tags of 2013 and if you are new to this challenge and if Tim launches a 12 tags of 2014 I would recommend playing along.  Always something new to try and of course to buy!!!!  But best of all it is a challenge you can always take with whatever you have in your stash.  It's all about the interpretation……

See you again soon with October's tag.  January is going to be a real race against that New Year Clock. Wish me luck and thank you for popping by!!!! x

Yule Logs

I cannot lay claim to this idea and I made them that long ago that I can't remember where I first saw these cute logs.  I do know it was pre any hint of Pinterest!!!!  It is a fun idea and something you can get the kids involved with so here are mine to give you some inspiration.

The fab Santa at the back of the group was a gift cleverly painted by my Sister-in-law (also called Helen!).  She likes crafting too as you can see!  In the front are the log characters I painted 11 years ago now! Family heirlooms now that are part of our home decor each Christmas.

I think the close ups of the faces are all you need in the way of  instructions as they really are simple.  You need dry logs with a flat base and an angled top that creates the perfect place to paint Santa's face.  For Santa use acrylic paint and paint one third of the log red for the hat - one third skin tone and one third white as a base of the beard.  Add a strip of white for the fur on the hat and you are ready to add the details.  The nose is a painted glass drop and the beard and fur are snowtex and glitter and finally the pom pom is a small polystyrene ball with a wedge cut out of it and more snowtex and glitter.  They are great fun and the kids can get involved too.

This elf was painted by my youngest Callum when he was 4!  He did the main part of the painting and I helped with the details and he enjoyed dabbing on the snowtex and sprinkling on the glitter.  Then he spotted Santa's footprint!

He painted it black and we have ended up with a lovely reminder of Christmas crafting together.  I hope this gives you some festive inspiration.  What decorations have you made with your kids that have become treasures you carefully unwrap each year when it is time to getting festive once more?

Not long now so before the festivities get underway in earnest so I just want to wish you and those you love a wonderful Christmas wherever you are in the world.  Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement over the year.  Your kind words always make me smile.  I hope Santa puts lots of crafting goodies in your stocking and that you get a little me time to try them out!  I am making my final lists in the hope that all is ready for the big day and we are looking forward to spending time with my Brother and Helen tomorrow.

WISHING YOU ALL A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HEALTHY AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.  SENDING YOU A GREAT BIG VIRTUAL HUG.

See you again soon and Thank You for popping by X

Stockings are hung by the fire with care...........

I love to see a festive fireplace even if it does have our TV sitting on the mantlepiece until we get our screen mounted on the wall!!!!  One day………..

Here is what it looks like most of the year.  Yes.....I do still have my halloween potion bottles on display!!!!  They have been wrapped and put away now I promise!!!!

So with a wave of my decorating wand and some greenery out of the garden we are ready for Santa's visit!

Hmmmmm better not leave the candle in the middle lit …….poor Santa ;-)

Check out the stockings hung with care....actually they are felt and magically stick to the brickwork!  I made these from kits.  They took me a while as I am not a natural needle woman but I got there in the end and love unwrapping them to display them as much as my children have loved checking out their contents on Christmas morning.

I always leave my fireplace until the end of my decorating so that the greenery lasts.  It is crispy by the time I clear it all away and boy does the holly get prickly....note to self.....get your gardening gloves on this year!!!!

Hope your preparations are going well Ho Ho Ho!

Paper Baubles - a tutorial!

I know this may be a little late as you will no doubt already have your tree up and decorated but it is never too early to start again for next year right!!!!! ;-)  Mind you if you need a few extra baubles to hang from garlands or your tree this is a fun and inexpensive bauble to make.

You can decorate them however you like and coordinate them perfectly to your existing decorations.  Here is the snowflake design that hangs on my tree.

....and here is a tutorial that shows you how to make a cute polka dot Poinsettia version.

Hope you are getting all your Christmas preparations completed on time.  I am running late again this year but somehow we all seem to get there on the day don't we?!!!!  My son gifted me a horrible cough and cold so I am dosing up with Lemsip at the moment and trying hard not to pass it on as I go about my merry Christmas way!!!!  Tonight I am helping friends get some Surprise Packages completed.  It was fun using my design for something that will promote their business.  I hope the fact that the box jumps out of the envelope surprises their customers enough to ensure they remember to call them lots and lots next year!

Hope you like the tutorial.  Don't forget to let me know if you give this a try.  I'd love to see what designs you come up with.

Thanks for popping by X

Christmas Pudding Gift Box Tutorial and free Template

Hi everyone

Just a quick post.  I managed to get that video uploaded and shared so I am posting the link here for you guys too.

Here is a cute Christmas Pudding that definitely won't make you fat!!!  It is a little gift box (you could easily turn it into a cupcake too)  I originally made this project to teach at a Christmas Card class and the idea was that you could use them on your Christmas dinner table to mark the places of each of your guests.  Add a little gift and they really do add a touch of whimsy to your Christmas table.

If you want to make some of these cute little gift boxes then here is the video link:

You will need to email me so that I can send you the template.  You just open it and print it on the thickest card your printer will allow and then you are ready to craft along with me.

This project is a big thank you to you all for your support over the year I really do appreciate the time you take to see what I have been up to and I hope that you have enjoyed the inspiration I have shared.  The link with my email address is on my right hand side bar.

See you again soon with some more Christmas inspiration.

Merry Christmas and thank you for popping by X
