12 Tags of 2014 - March

Three months into the year already.  Can you believe it?  The weather here has been very changeable in March and before I post my tag for Tim Holtz's 12 Tags of 2014 I wanted to share a photo I took yesterday.

You can imagine the downpour!  How cool is that?  You can see how bright the sunshine is against the white walls of the houses and how black the rain clouds are - and not one but two beautiful rainbows.  Definitely worth the rain!!!

This months tag technique was smudge stamping and let me tell you before you watch the video I made a few mistakes!!!!  I couldn't seem to do right for doing wrong!!!  First I didn't have the lovely stamps Tim used so I struggled choosing suitable ones from my collection and it took me a few goes until I got a composition I liked.  The technique involved making a second generation stamped image and I kept forgetting and automatically reinked my stamp on several occasions……..then I didn't read Tim's tutorial correctly and I thought he only smudged the second generation images……wrong and then I made a mistake and smudged the first generation of stamping and got cross as I had to redo the tag and when I edited the video I realised that I didn't need to redo the tag I should have just carried on smudging!!!!!!  What a palaver!  It did make me chuckle though so I didn't cut it all out of the video so I hope it makes you chuckle too!!!

I got there in the end as you can see…..

I think I got there in the end!!!!  I really enjoyed turning my tags into luggage labels using Kraft Glassine to make faux leather.  Instead of putting strips of tissue tape to adorn my tags the way Tim did I decided to make rosettes with the tissue tape and my new Custom Fasteners made the perfect flower centres as you can see……..

I really hope you like the tutorial and that your weather brings you rainbows as spectacular at the ones we had yesterday.  Don't forget to pop over to see what all the other tag artists got up to this month over at 12 Tags of 2014.  After you have watched the video of course!!! ;-)

Have a great week and thank you for popping by X

If it makes you feel any better, I had many of the same issues when I made my March tags, too. Forgot to smudge when the ink was wet, reinked the stamp without thinking, etc. lol But since I don't think Tim will be grading us, I think we'll be fine. :-) ~ Laura

  4. Fabulous tags Helen! I really like the faux leather look of them. You are very inventive. I couldn't do the smudge thing at all because I had to use rub-ons for the main images of the tag, but I did enjoy doing it and am happy with the end result. I hope to get chance to watch the video very soon. (And to have a chuckle with you) :o) Mo x

  5. Love what you've done, Helen - I've left a longer comment on your Youtube channel. Fabulous rainbow... We saw one like that on the way home the other day. Lifts one's spirits, doesn't it!

Thank you for your visit and your lovely comment on my blog about my little teabag stain zentangles. I would never have believed you could make so much art and have so much fun with the humble teabag. I am getting them from church now, which bumps up the numbers a bit but this week's were pyramid bags which aren't so good, although they are producing lovely marks! Mum drinks coffee bags but I've never tried making art with them. A lot of people use coffee filters (both used and unused) for art - do a Google search and see what comes up!

    Have a great week,
    Shoshi
