WOYWW 163 (again)

Hello,  Hello and welcome,  I hope your enjoying your tour of the crafting desks of the world!  This one is in Derbyshire in England.  I took a slightly different view this week and look no washing on the radiator for a change!!  I managed to have a bit of a self indulgent play day on Sunday and made the July TH tag and my Tag Tuesday tag too.  I also did Lesson 2 and part of Lesson 3 of TH Creative Chemistry 101 course.  I thought I had quite a haul of crafting goodies but as I do this course I find more excuses to shop!  I have decided to work my way through the course with what I have and to make a list of what I need and go back to those tags later.  So on my desk are the tags I have completed and the inks I have been learning about.  I must admit I have done all these techniques before but it is nice to know the background information on how they work and why.  Its fun to get inky too of course.

On the pink wall you can see my tag collection is growing.  The top ones are the 12 Tags of 2012 and the bottom ones are from the Tag Tuesday challenge.  There are two tags still on my desk waiting to be hung (they need a little nail as they are a bit heavy for the blue tac I usually use to stick my tags to the wall.  I was thinking though that I may move my tag display next door where I have cream walls as I think they might look better on there (my pink wall while lovely is a bit overpowering for them).  I thought of painting a couple of large frames and then sticking them on the wall to create a frame to hang my tags in - a kind of tag gallery.

This photo is of the room next door that I am in the process of setting up as a studio.  I wanted to show you my light box tent which I made yesterday.  My youngest son didn't even know I could sew which makes it 13 years since I did (scary thought).  I told him I used to make my own ball gowns in my own designs and he said quite nonchalantly 'You were quite good then!'  If you want to see one of them follow this link for a fun tale of the self taught dressmaker!  I had to borrow my Mum's sewing machine to make this tent as mine had, not surprisingly, seized up!  Thanks Mum x

Thanks for popping by X

  4. Love the tags on the wall. Very pretty.
I know what you mean by always finding time to shop and then I usually whine I don't have time to create. There is something special about buying new goodies.

  5. I really, really need to make a photography tent box!! One day! And yes, I would move the tags to a neutral wall so they would show up better, love the idea of the tag gallery! I also have mine on the wall, and just like you there is an empty space for January's tag, when is that man gonna give it to us?..lol waving hi from hills of North Carolina :) ( not yet numbered )

  7. Oooh the creative chemistry course is such fun isnt it. Love your tags on the wall - I hang mine up there too - at least I get to look at them then! Enjoy the craft room when it is set up - my sewing machine has lived in my dining room for the past 13 years as I got fed up carrying it upstairs and prefer to work on the bigger table! 12. Love the tags Helen and your light box - very clever. My sewing machine had also seized up but then mine had lain idle for 20 years. a brilliant excuse for a new one.

  13. I really thoroughly enjoyed the Creative Chemistry course and I think I learned quite a few new things. Like the idea of putting the tags on frames, saves on the blu tack - lol. Looked at the post with your ball gown, very nice design but had a giggle over the bit about the bus.......thanks for your visit earlier, Anne x #9

Love the seagull tag! I've not done Tim's tags month by month but I should have a closer look. Was tempted y the course but I know me - I just cannot carry thru as I have so many ideas of my own to explore it always go off and do them instead. Maybe one day....

  18. Lovely to see your pink wall with all those gorgeous tags on. I like your idea of painting the large frames to use as a display for the tags. The lightbox is impressive ... like you, I used to sew a lot, most of my clothes, all my daughter's dresses, etc., but once the kids grew up and I stopped going to formal balls, I stopped and now I find it hard to sew a straight line of stitches on a card :S Happy WOYWW, Elizabeth x #75

  19. Well, you may not have sewn for a while, but that light box is very clever!! Well done for amazing your son too - that doesn't happen very often!

  20. Thanks for your visit, Helen. Good idea to use a spray booth. Fortunately my craft sheet is quite large! Sick-making to lose my first chance of being Numero Uno lol! Still, #3 isn't too bad is it.

You are clever, a handy person to have around it seems! Followed the link to the dress, loved the story of being lifted into the mini van!! How did you get two rooms all to you self! Or are you in the process of moving into one of them?? Thanks for the idea of a craft event, will keep my eyes peeled for anything in my area, even a church fete might work!!

  24. Brilliant idea, display your art in your workspace! You've inspired me. Oh, and you did spot the ring correctly on my desk. I didn't mean for it to be a competition; I just knew if I didn't say what it was, people would ask!

Hope Derbyshire has been as sunny as Manchester.

  27. I always suspected that the Tim Holtz classes would inspire me to buy so much more and be hard on the wallet (but so much fun to do!).

That blue tac stuff! Ohmigawd! We so used that as kids and teens, posters everywhere. I haven't seen it in forever. There only seems to be an inferior yellow version of it around.

A cream wall would probably be a better background for them but I do love your PINK wall. I think a burlap background would be neat too. I know don't why I think that but it popped to mind when you talked about making a framed gallery for them.

    1. Your suggestion to cut down a waterfall to half the card size and lather, rinse, repeat on the other half of the card was brilliant. It seems kind of obvious now though. I was pondering how to invent it from scratch but couldn't fathom how to get it on both sides so nicely. I'm going to try it out, but not tonight.

  31. I do love all the colors in your craft room...but you're probably right about the lovely pink being overwhelming for your tags...I bet the tags would look super in a painted frame-like thing, maybe you could just paint a frame directly on the wall? 'Course using a real frame does make it less permanent. Hmmm, well I guess you have options, huh? :)
Looks like you did a great job on the lightbox, especially for not having sewn for so many years! Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment... :)

  32. Sorry I am getting back to you late, been really busy on the road. Love the tags, I actually have a huge pinboard in my art room that I pin my special stuff on and this way i can change it when wanted. I do love the coloured walls. I am not wanting to do the 101 course not only for financial reasons, also because there is so much stuff that i know i will need and therefore it becomes very expensive. I do hope you achieve yours without much expence.

  33. You have a great tag collection started. I haven't checked any of the TH classes - are they on-line classes? I've taken a mixed media e-course and just loved it.

Your workspace looks like fun - but what is that big blue thing on the desk?
